ALLEN A LEFKOVITZ
Allen A Lefkovitz, principal and founder of Allen A Lefkovitz & Associates, P.C., is one of the nation's most respected attorneys specializing in real estate assessment and property tax law, which have been the focus of his practice for more than 20 years. His work is primarily related to properties in Illinois, but he represents clients across the United States and has handled cases in such jurisdictions as California, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Missouri, New York, Texas and Wisconsin.
Mr. Lefkovitz has achieved remarkable results in reducing tax assessments and the resulting tax bills on a broad array of properties, ranging from office buildings and residential condominiums to theaters, industrial facilities and retail centers.
In addition to representing property owners in actions to reduce property taxes, he provides consulting services in property tax planning and pre-acquisition due diligence. He advises real estate lenders on the property tax aspects of proposed loans and REO properties, and also has served as an arbitrator for the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois.
Mr. Lefkovitz has spoken about various aspects of property tax law before the Chicago Bar Association and the National Business Institute, as well as for Illinois Real Estate Tax Seminars and Louman Educational Services. In 2004 he was a featured speaker at the annual legal symposium sponsored by the International Association of Assessing Officers, where he discussed the segregation of real estate values from the value of total business assets for long-term-care facilities.
He is a member of the American, Illinois and Chicago Bar Associations, the Institute of Professionals in Taxation and the International Association of Assessing Officers. A graduate of Roosevelt University, Mr. Lefkovitz was involved in the development and management of apartment, industrial and commercial properties before earning his juris doctor degree from John Marshall Law School in 1980. He has received a CMI (Certified Member of the Institute) certification from the Institute of Professionals in Taxation. He also has completed the Property Tax and Advanced Property Tax programs of the Institute of Professionals in Taxation, as well as completed a class on the segregation of business values from the Appraisal Institute.
Prior to establishing his own firm, Mr. Lefkovitz was a partner in the law firm of Rosenthal and Schanfield, where he was responsible for the real estate and personal property assessment and tax practice group. Earlier in his legal career he was associated with the law firm of Bilandic, Neistein, Richman, Hauslinger and Young and with the firm of Arvey, Hodes, Costello and Burman.
Mr. Lefkovitz and his family reside in Deerfield, Illinois.
